The dog days of summer are upon us. Hot sticky days can cause tempers to flare. Have no fear Smoky Mountain Getaways can help you find diversions to the unbearable heat. Your family or group can find something to interest you in the Smoky Mountains that doesn’t require you to melt away in the heat.
The obvious choice in extreme heat is water. Hotels have some great pools and the cabin rental companies usually have a pool also. The mountains have lots of access to icy streams and rivers that will make the heat bearable. The Wye in Townsend is a great swimming area where you can also go tubing. If being involved in nature isn’t your thing, we have Dollywood’s Splash Country waterpark. Dollywood’s Splash Country will be open until September 5,2016, be sure to check their calendar for closings during the week.
Swimming may not be your thing to do; thankfully we have a diverse area for you. Many theaters are in the area for your enjoyment; Country Tonite, Dixie Stampede, Comedy Barn, Lumberjack Feud, Great Smoky Mountain Murder Mystery Dinner Show, Hatfield and McCoy, Smoky Mountain Opry and many more. If you want a little bit of adventure we have some great attractions for you; Hollywood Wax Museum, Wonderworks, Ripley’s Aquarium, Titanic, Tomb: Egyptian Adventure, Top Jump, Sevier Air (Opening Soon!!), Island Mirror Maze, Castle of Chaos, and Hannah’s Maze of Mirrors just to name a few. There are several museums in the area that will provide plenty of cool, informative tours for you.
While we have lots of shopping in the area, some may not like to walk about in the heat for the outside market feel. However, there is some options that you might not think of. We have wineries that provide tastings and have shopping options that reach most tastes. Bass Pro Shops at Exit 407 have shopping, an aquarium, and a restaurant all in one.
Summer is a time for blockbuster movies. Many new movies release during the summer months to help people alleviate boredom and to avoid extreme heat. We have two movie theaters in the area for people to enjoy. The Forge Cinemas is in the heart of Pigeon Forge, surrounded by restaurants and shopping at the Walden’s Landing complex. Governor’s Crossing Stadium 14 has reclining seats and is surrounded by many restaurants and shopping at Governor’s Crossing. This is a great way to cool off, grab something good to eat, and get in some shopping.
A great way to finish up your day or have a treat whenever, is to grab some ice cream. Soft serve ice cream is served at several fast food options. Also, there are several specialty shops in the area for different ice cream options; Baskin Robbins Ice Cream, Ben and Jerry’s, Island Yogurt, Marble Slab Creamery, Old Mill Creamery, and Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt to name a few.
As you can see we have many options in our area to help you beat the heat in the dog days of summer. We hope your stay or day visit to our area is pleasant and enjoyable. Check out more options on our website www.smokymtngetaways.com.
